hello CD listeners, we have come to the point on this album where those listening on cassette or records will have to stand up or sit down and turn over record or tape. In fairness to those listeners we will now take a few seconds before we begin side two... Thank you... Here's side two - tom petty, 1989

This might sound strange, but I clicked on the link and a giant green devil popped up and thats it.

Despite the best intentions
And a big ol' man goes up for sale

Well this collection is hardly definitive and I wouldn't be surprised if a good portion of this stuff is pirated directly from "Playback".

Well the first giveaway that it is not worth having is that it's mp3. Coupled with JM's statement that it's probably pirated, definitely not worth having.

While singing to TPATH, "Quiet Mommy, I'm trying to listen to Thomas." Brett, age 5.
After listening to a Mudcrutch show I asked Brett what she thought about the new Mudcrutch music. Her response: "It's great. I didn't know it would be so thrilling." Brett, age 6.
"All right, now we're at the part of the show that we just go rip roarin crazy. Are you ready to go rip roarin crazy with me?" Tom Petty 6/28/03 Summerfest
Baby, those few hours linger on in my head forever...

Yep, MP3 has its place I guess, but TP/TPATH music should always be preserved in at least CD (red book) quality. MP3 is just too much of a compressed/degraded format, and unnecessary for music that was once released as a "B side". Now if someone had a "boot" of those songs in some superior to CD format (such as SACD or DVD-Audio or whatever), that would be something. I might even buy an SACD or DVD-A compatible player, just to hear TPATH in that format (assuming that it was taken from an LP or master analog source, rather than just extrapolated up from a CD or MP3).

They should also probably have "Wild Eyes", the B-side of the 1970's Mudcrutch single "Depot Street", even though technically it's not a TPATH release. Bottom line, IMO folks should have "Playback" and all the other offical TP/TPATH releases before going for "boots" anyway, but if they already have "Playback" then they aren't getting much "new" or high quality there. Thanks for pointing it out though Wilbury, not knocking you for this.

By the way, somewhat off-topic, but does anyone remember the "elcassette" (or "el cassette", or "l cassette")? That was a tape format that was wider and ran faster than a standard (Philips) audio cassette. I heard a demo of this in the late 1970's (if I am recalling correctly) and the sound was spectacular. But the tapes were bulky and never caught on, I guess that merely offering significantly improved quality audio does not always catch on, which is too bad.

That sucks! I guess i'm just trying to get my hands on whatever I can because I don't really have that much when it comes to my TPATH collection.
