I have been trying for years to get this song. I am far from the most savvy technical guys with torrents and trading and such. I understand I need something to trade for someone to pm me with the song. Well I am putting it out there. I really would love to have this song, especially since it is now being played live. Is there anyone on this board who can help me out? I've got some live TP but if you have Sweet William you probably already have these shows (last night at the Fillmore in 97 and 93 Vic Theatre Show). Thanks.
You can buy it off of amazon. Its on the Room At The Top cd single. that is all

but no.. it's not a boot...it's an official release.

I just did a search under tom petty singles and found all kinds of neat stuff! Be careful of some of the import bootlegs though.

To my knowledge there isn't much of a market for counterfeit TP&HB singles. As for bootleg compilations containing b-sides such as "Sweet William", in my opinion if you are trying to be frugal sometimes these are the best way to go as you can get all of the rare b-sides on a couple of cds and not have the shill out massive amounts of cash for them.
For example the single with "Sweet William" as the b-side (Room At The Top) is on eBay right now selling for around fifty bucks. Despite the fact that "Sweet William" is an awesome song, that single isn't worth fifty bucks.
So while its up to the individual consumer what path he chooses to take, bootleg compilations are certainly a viable option for a lot of this stuff.
I just found a couple of cd singles that had the same pic on each cover, trying to make the cd look like it was a rare single, when all it was was a recording of Mary Jane's Last Dance, the same version that you already hear on the greatest hits album. I think it was just a bootleg made in Russia or something. A few years back, before they re-released The Traveling Wilburys albums, if you did a search on Amazon and bought the cd from there, they were copies made in Russia. I was so freaked out when the cd I got had the cover almost entirely in Russian! But the music was the orginal, so I was still happy.

LOL. Now that I have the real thing, I haven't listened to them in awhile. Once, there was a cd for the Traveling Wilburys Masters. I don't know how they got these, but it sounds like the original, unfinished recordings of the songs. Lyrics for songs like End of the Line were still being worked out... I'll have to break it out to remember for sure. Its got a caricature of the Wilburys fishing on its cover.

Well the Traveling Wilburys Masters is a bootleg cd. The other discs you speak of are grey area releases that for some reason are basically legal in Russia.
I think the Russians have put out The Beatles entire catalog in "two-fers" so you get two cds on one disc. In some cases they've even added unreleased bonus tracks. Pretty cool in my opinion although not the definitive source for that material.
I would just hate for someone to buy one of the bootlegs singles I mentioned earlier, thinking they are getting some really neat, rare song/cover of something, only to have it be the exact same recording as what they already own.

I was listening to the FM radio here near Fairbanks today a little on the road - it was Armed Forces Radio and they were playing lots of Beatles. Funny thing was that they seemed to be missing one channel, and the way the recordings were mixed, it left out a lot of the vocals.
That whole Russian CD thing is weird. Even if it were not legal (and I'm betting it isn't per international copyright agreements) who has big enough stones to fly out there and cuff Boris and Natasha? LOL!
Crazy in love with Rock and Roll.

Argh! I want to hear this song SO badly - I hear that it is an awesome tune, plus it's title bears my name ... Every place I have seen the single for sale, however, has it listed for a price I can't bring myself to justify spending for a single song...

Well, considering the single is almost 10 years old, I think it's worth it. It's up to you. I think $12.00 is better than the $32.00 the other guy is charging!

As I recall, this song was issued only on the German version of the "Room at the Top" CD single. It was available for a while on Amazon as an import, for about $13 new, I think. Or did I dream that about it only being on the Germany version, rather than on a US/Canada or UK (or other) version?
