Today was a good day for Mr.Gator. I opened a tube from Gainesville Fla and a very sweet Mudcrutch poster came out. Somewhat simple artwork and thin paper, but just looking at the bands made me smile.
Mudcrutch
Road Turkey
Midnight machete
John Jones
Oct 31st 1972 University of Florida Halloween Ball.
It does have a dust speck size tear in the side, anybody know how to repair it without damaging it? I could just frame it but don't want a microscopic tear getting bigger. It's too small for achival tape, I thought of a toothpick dab of super glue, then thought better. Maybe it would eat the paper over time?
Anybody know about about old papers and fixing em right?
Then its to the art gallery for matting and framing. Wish it was signed but can't have everything. After a sucky day at work to come home and see something so rare from my favorite band makes the hard day all worthwhile.

I'd frame it real well and leave it.

No super glue, or tape.

That poster is a genuine treasure. May you enjoy it forever. Even if its 'old' Wink

Did someone hijack your password, Gator? That's the most positive post I've seen from you yet. Kidding, kidding! Seriously, you sound deliriously happy and I'm really happy for you. That poster sounds like an absolute treasure. Take a pic of it and post it for us to see!

As far as that tear, ask the framer at the art gallery what they would suggest.

Where have you decided to hang it?

Yeah I am smiling. I was anticipating it like a little kid at christmas. It was one of those ebay items, you can google it and it will still come up if you want to check it out. 1972 mudcrutch poster. When picks were going for $350 I figured no way was I getting this thing.

Since bidding, I have been trying to find another copy on the internet and have searched off and on, and lo and behold on the gonegator site, under galleries, then history, it shows Tom's home, ect.. and then it shows a shot from the Florida Museum exhibit "chasing the dream" I think it was called, and there are Tom's bluejeans and Print shirt, and you can just see the bottom part of my very poster framed as part of the exhibit.
So I got a real museum piece!!
The guy I got it from, posted a bunch of cool facts about Tom on Mudcrutch.com
He went to school with him, booked him for a lot of his early stuff. Just good stories in case you want a nice read check it out. Gainesville Charlie is his name there, I will leave out his real name since he probably doesn't want it out there.
I checked it all out with a third party. All legit.
So I am a proud pappa of a beautiful baby poster!!
( see I can be positive, I just live in the past with Tom Smile)

I am not going to try to touch up the small tear, it will be under the matting anyway.
Just gonna take it to the gallery and let them do their stuff. If some kid screws it up you will be reading about me in the paper. Frown
Then it's going on my den wall where I will tell my wife I paid $10.62 for it as a beautiful reproduction. So she doesn't kill me for buying more TP stuff!

So you're gonna lie to your wife about the poster, now wondering if he would lie to a poster....<think hard>

Thank you Lacey. I am proud obviously.

To Gargoyle and Jones, Fuck off. This ain't Dr Phil, it was a joke.
Thanks for trying to ruin something for me for no other reason than your are a couple of jealous assholes. I don't know what you are inferring about lying to posters??
I was trying to share something really cool with this board, and posted a cool link to other very interesting material about the band, and all I get is shit from a select few dickheads. You don't like me, you want to follow me around sarcastic comments, FINE. We can ruin this board doing it.

Thanks Linki, hopefully he comes up with some more for others to buy too. Apparently he has been saving about 20 of them since 1972. No sense just sitting in someones desk, I hope he releases more for other fans to frame and be shown.
These festivals were the very beginning of the band, and it's a story that should be told. I have heard snippets before of the Gainesville years, but it's usually just the story of playing small bars like Dubs too many times, a few mudcrutch farm festivals, and then off to LA.
When really the band was cutting it's teeth for fairly large audiences of college students( 1000+) at least once a month. And 3 huge yearly halloween parties of 10,000 participants. I never knew they were playing for that large an audience with regularity for several years before going to LA. No wonder they were already so damn good by the time Cordell "discovered" them.
That era and memorabilia fascinates me. Not much stuff survived. I wish I could have been there.

I actually got a little choked up when you spoke of trying to mend the tiny little tear. The poster couldn't have landed in better hands. I hope the gallery does everything it can to preserve this gem for you. I'm soooooooo glad this poster is in your hands and brings you so much joy. Smile

I hope the gallery does a good job and everything is acid free and Mylar corners( see I have been reading on archiving stuff Smile)
This one will be passed onto the kids after I die.
( and then they will probably pawn it Smile)

It's in good hands. And, I mean that with all sincerity. Most people on this board pay 'lip service' to appreciating these kinds of artifacts. You actually demonstrated it. Thanx. Smile
