After much searching got a Promo 45. For only $40 bucks! Hope it's real. I have heard various things about copies but nothing definitive as to tell which was good and which was not. Probably impossible to tell. I have heard the S in shelter should be yellow, but everyone I have seen has the yellow circle on the white promos. So maybe they are all legit. (or all fake)
I saw someone last month paid $230 for one and thought that was insanity. It's been a good month of collecting the old stuff. I also got a 45 shelter record breakdown for .99 cents that I thought was kind of cool too. though probably not rare, it still brings back memories and that is all that matters. |

nobody else has one of these promos or stock 45's? The pepper records 45's?
Post a picture of it? It would be good to see several samples if people have any? |

Hey GH,
The skinny on the "Depot Street/Wild Eyes" 45 can be found here. http://www.mudcrutch.com/index.php?pageid=mudcrutch The yellow label is authentic while the white label is generally thought to be a forgery. Thats the long and the short of it there. There are some illustrations on that site which you can view. The "UP IN MISSISSIPPI/CAUSE ITS UNDERSTOOD" 45 was released in very limited quanities. They are generally harder to locate than the "Depot Street" 45 but many people in this fanbase (myself included) have located original copies of these throughout the years. The 45 features a bright red label with with black type. An illustration of this case be found in the PLAYBACK booklet. |

John, I read that.
Then I was also told that was BS, that the guy who posted that stuff about the yellow circle was assuming a lot that was not true. There was a long post on the record collectors guild from Miami steve mainly. No conclusions were reached mainly because there have not been enough samples seen. Some people believe all the promos are fake, only the stock copies are good. Some people thing the Widespaced mudcrutch lettering is good, Danny Roberts basically said not true. It would be great if everyone who had one could put a picture up and let's compare. |

ok bad boy. +1 to you!
Thats the real shit no doubt. Whats the history behind it? That is exactly like the ones Danny described. It doesn't say promo copy at all, and is mult colored. Just says sample. I should have my picture up in a day or two. Yours is a very interesting variety. I would say real deal. GIMME! |

I have an all white label, promo copy that looks exactly like the photos posted on the mudcrutch.com page linked above. I can't even tell you how long I've had it, but if I had to guess I'd say at least 20 years and no I don't remember what I paid for it either. For me, it's a piece of history and so I'm not concerned about the label ~ course I'm never gonna sell it either. It's pristine and it's awesome to listen to, occasionally.
