One hit wonder from the Tarney/Spencer Band circa 1979.

^Think I was too firmly in the grip of Candy-O at the time to notice.

No moving characters spinning around below but it does contain the lyrics. March 11th's entry posted a little early. An all-time favorite never to be displaced. A tiny spark will remain...

I'll Be Around

Good song, nice atmospheric sound. If you like that song, you might like the Cliff Richard album "I'm No Hero". Nearly all the songs on it are written and produced by Alan Tarney (of Tarney/Spencer); I think Tarney also plays guitar on that album. If you can get past the Cliff Richard teen-idol thing, it's a good album; definitely remniscent of the Tarney-Spencer song/sound throughout.

Exo, Candy-O is a great album. They don't get made like that anymore. Anyway, here's my entry for March 11. A good rocker by the Smithereens from '89.

I love The Cars music also. And they were a great live band too, I don't think a lot of people realized that. The Cars should easily be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, except that the jerks who control the nominations won't allow bands with synthesizers (or the like, such as a Mellotron) into their little club. So ELP, The Moody Blues, Yes, Genesis, The Cars and many more are wrongly excluded. Oh well.

Mystery Man,
I think The Cars will eventually get into the Hall, but it's going to take awhile. There does seem to be a bit of a bias against their type of rock. They definitely deserve to be there. Genesis is assured a place as well. The others you've listed are lower profile bands, so its going to be harder for them to get in (in a timely manner, anyway).

OK Thunderhead, I reverted to my days working on Beacon Street when my boss was a BIG Cars fan and she invited me to their practices,
must have been 1980-‘81….never went because I had a year old sick child... Smile

Shake It Up bo bo booo Shake It Up.

What a fun group. Everybody was always crazy about them in the 70's. My brand of punk.

I'm not old enough to remember when they broke into the big time, but as a young kid I remember them being on the radio all the time. I rediscovered them in my early teens, but unfortunately by then they had broken up.

Blame it on the weather, blame Thunderhead. This is a bolt I’m thankful for though. It’s been such a long time…(amazing how these lyrics from their 1st two albums come flooding back like it was only yesterday, hanging close to the keg).

Dangerous Type…

...Museum directors with high shaking heads
They kick white shadows until they play dead
They want to crack your crossword smile
Oo can I take you out for awhile, yeah...

Greg Hawkes, The Cars keyboardist, was integral to their sound. Benmont is a serious contributor to our band’s music, but I don't think to the same degree.

Here’s another, but from their debut. It’s just as “dangerous” and geez, just by looking at the cover of this album, transports me back.

The Cars - Bye, Bye Love

I finally got to go (after years of no money) to buy some music and The Cars Anthlogy was there. I really didn't realize how may great songs they had.

Think I'll stick it back into the mobile again.

What happened to these guys anyway?

^Ric Ocasek works mainly as a producer, and occasionally he puts out solo material. A couple of them are in a revamped lineup called "The New Cars", and unfortunately Benjamin Orr (vocals/bass) is no longer with us, having passed from pancreatic cancer some years ago.

Alright, after a day of several great Cars videos, it is time for my selection for March 13. This one is quite a bit more obscure, and I'm not sure if its sharp cheddar or colby, but there is more than a little 1980s cheese involved with this one. Still, its a very good song. Pay particular attention to the background vocals. I do believe you'll recognize a voice we are all familiar with. This was a big hit in '84, then the guy pretty much just disappeared.

Holy fumunga, Thunda (a little flake of parmesan for you) but there sure was some serious cheese in your selection for today. I can vaguely remember the song but it’s the first time seeing the video. If the background voice you mention showed his noggin, the rarified coolness score he's accrued over time would require a few points deduction.

All Mixed Up, oh my. If a song ever had a Siamese twin it was the one that immediately preceded it from that tremendous debut album, Moving In Stereo. …Bemp, bemp, bemp, bemp, bemp-bemp bemp… StephanieEarl left The Cars in the driveway, with the keys!; have to take them for another spin today. And You’re All I’ve Got Tonight, girlie stuff? No way, Jose.

...Its so easy to blow up your problems
Its so easy to play up your breakdown
Its so easy to fly through a window
Its so easy to fool with the sound...

4 days from St. Patrick's Day, just a friendly reminder. A Monday never will have it so good.

^I remember seeing that around here before; it still hasn't found any magic since (and whoever is the scorekeeper, Johnny Depp?, should deduct two points from TP's coolness factor -- thank God for the Heartbreakers).
