I don't know how many sports fans exist here, but I know there are a few...discuss any sport or any team you want here.
Baseball... Playoffs are about to rev up...My Cubs are gettin' ready to kick some Dodger ass...at least I hope so. Is one World Series title per century too much to ask? NFL... At the 1/4th mark, this looks wide open this year. My Bears share the division lead and are 2-2. If not for two consecutive choke jobs prior to this week, they'd be 4-0 and sitting pretty. Got some trash talk for Exo, whose Eagles were tonight's victim. 2nd and Goal at the one and they can't get it done. The "D" rose up tonight. VERY sloppy game. In the second half our offense did everything they could to giftwrap the win for Philly with 3 awful turnovers, but the defense held... General Comment: the NFC East is absolutely loaded. All four teams look playoff worthy right now. NASCAR...Kyle Busch can do no wrong all season, now the Chase has started and he can't catch a break....if Jimmie Johnson wins the title again this year I might have to shoot my TV with a bazooka....Greg Biffle is in striking distance, Jeff Burton isn't all that far back...would love to see one of those guys take the Cup this year. Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon both have not yet won a race this year...how's that possible? I'm done, your turn... |

Similar to NASCAR, hopefully the only left turns to be discussed in this thread will be restricted to the fossil fuel variety as opposed to other forms of community emitted gaseous billowing having choked on recently in others. Too much going on Thunderhead to stay up last night and after reading your synopsis above, the z’s exchanged traded better. It is bad though, a Philly fan hitting the sack early while the Iggs are playing (at least 3 Hail M.’s and an OF from Fr. Frank for that indiscretion). The NFC East sure does seem loaded, you’re right; hopefully Bryan Westbrook recovers to see the ball often Sunday when the Redskins travel to Philly; he is missed.
Hold on, I had to grab a Kleenex and dry my eyes but the Mets lost out…again. That fat lady’s song couldn’t sound sweeter; the Fightin’s win their second straight divisional title. If the Phil’s bats stay hot and their pitching holds; the NLCS could involve the Cubs. I hope so. And then I hope, we kick your ass. The puck has been dropped, preseason at least, but the season that really matters is the playoffs and we’ve got a little ways to go and lots to happen, lots, in between. The Sixers? Can talk about them another time, Sarah’s holding the rock now. Remember? She stole it, from the wannabe, the not ready for prime time player, the wind blown, south side machine produced pretender. Go Phils! |

Do you have to defile this thread, too, with your juvenile crush on Sarah Palin? Have a little dignity for christ's sake. Anway.....I'm thrilled for the Cubbies! ___________________________________________________________________________ |

Yo nel. Do us both a favor and put me on ignore, at least until 11/5. The movement re-ignited would not be classified as juvenile.
When you snooze, I hope that dude who catches foul balls reappears in Wrigley. And when Bartman does, he hands the ball over to…that’s right; Mrs. Alaskan Fresh Air. Ok the dream is over and but then reality sets in and Bartman really did not hurt the Cubs chances in 2008 inappropriately snagging foul balls, but, you are still left with a female VP. Good morning. Would you like a side of moose with your eggs? |

I'm very happy that the Brewers beat the Cubs yesterday and the Mets lost. First time Brewers are in the playoffs since 1982.
While singing to TPATH, "Quiet Mommy, I'm trying to listen to Thomas." Brett, age 5.After listening to a Mudcrutch show I asked Brett what she thought about the new Mudcrutch music. Her response: "It's great. I didn't know it would be so thrilling." Brett, age 6. "All right, now we're at the part of the show that we just go rip roarin crazy. Are you ready to go rip roarin crazy with me?" Tom Petty 6/28/03 Summerfest Baby, those few hours linger on in my head forever... |

NASACR ~ Diehard #88 fan here. I am really glad to see the #18 having a streak of bad luck, can't stand his arrogant attitude and hope this current streak of bad luck puts his feet back on the ground.
It's also nice to see the #16 running well, nice guy. I also like the #31 but don't know if I could stand all the "wifey tears" if he were to take home the cup. GO # 88 !!!!!!!! |

Dale Jr. is great, but he's done as far as the Chase is concerned, barring an absolute miracle.
Johnson, Edwards, and Biffle are neck and neck...Burton is in the shadows right now but could pounce if those 3 have trouble....it is a wonder that Kim Burton doesn't suffer from ulcers at this point with as wrapped up as she gets watching Jeff if he's in contention late. The Brewers...congrats on getting in for the first time since '82, but you can't pitch ol' C.C. every day, so unfortunately for you guys I think the Phillies are gonna take the series. Prediction time: Cubs over Dodgers in 4 games Cubs over Phillies in 6 games. Cubs over Angels in 7 games. ...and then Chicago (and the northern 2/3rds of Illinois for that matter) will go clinically insane. |

Don't Know A great deal about American Sports. But we are having The Rugby League (NRL) Grand Final Over here this weekend, and the team I go for is not represented, So I don't really care about that either. Then over the coming summer (Nov to Feb) we have Cricket season starting up, Australia does usually pretty well at that.
I have a friend who goes for the Cleveland Browns, and he is going there during his US trip to see a game but not in the Dawg Pound. I believe they have not had the best of starts to their season. Hmmm Baseball, NO Idea, I have a friend in Canada that goes for The Blue Jays, I think They're from Toronto. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "Enjoy Every Sandwich" Warren Zevon <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> |

OK, the Cubs have officially pissed me off. They win 97 games, secure home field advantage against a team that they should beat handily, and they go out there and deliver two turds in a row. They better right the ship in a hurry or we're gonna be talking about "year 101" really soon.

The Chicago Cubs just don't look ready for postseason baseball. I don't know if its the "100 years" pressure that is getting to them but they are not doing the essential things teams need to do to win postseason games. The teams that have been having the most success so far this postseason (The Phillies & The Dodgers) have been moving men around the bases very well. They swipe a bag here and there, they don't strand RISP with two outs and in the Dodgers' case they are adding tack on runs late in games. The Cubs just look very tight at the plate, they are swinging at stuff out of the strike zone which is causing them to fall into pitchers' counts more often than not and when they do get on base they have stranded their runners. Soriano in the first inning tonight was a prime example of that, they needed to bring him around. This puts a lot of pressure on your pitching staff. The announcers were mentioning that Carlos Zambrano pitched a decent game tonight and I have to agree with them. He did give up those five runs but he gave those up in the second inning. The Cubs needed to hold The Dodgers at five runs because that is actually a lead you can come back from that early in the game. Instead not only did they not chip away at the lead in the next few innings but eventually allowed the Cubs to tack on another five runs making it an impossible wall to climb. They should've beaten The Dodgers easily but they didn't because The Dodgers are pushing all the right buttons and making the most of each opportunity they get while The Cubs are pressing at the plate and trying to do too much with each at bat. That is essentially your ballgame. EDIT: I wanted to add that the tightness I mentioned earlier also comes into play in the field. The errors in the field by the Cubs tonight were costly and at least one of them (the botched DP) was the result of trying to make a perfect play when you could've survived with just getting the force at second which would've given you an out. Just very tight all around tonight. This message has been edited. Last edited by: JohnMill, |

October has to be my favorite month for sports.
Hockey, baseball, and football all come together for one glorious month of quality time with my TV. The Cubs are done. After the way they played in the last 2 games, I just don't see them winning 3 straight. I'm hoping the Angels bounce back because if not, I have a bad feeling it will be the Dodgers and Red Sox's in the World Series. The Canadiens look like a true contender this year. I cannot wait for the season to begin. Come June the cup will return to where it belongs for the 25th time. The Kansas City Chiefs looked good last Sunday, but I realize it is going to be a long season. I expected that and believe rebuilding is the right move. Johnmill,
I can't argue with any of that. Pretty much sums it up. NYR, History would tell us that you are right. You don't lose two at home and win the series very often. However, the Cubs were a very streaky team this year, especially in the 2nd half. If they can get hot, maybe they'll stay that way. I'm just hoping that they will at least win one game and spare themselves the embarrassment of being swept out of the NLDS two straight years. What is truly galling is that they have a great team this year, whereas last year's team was merely "good". To lose is one thing, but they're getting killed, and I think Chicagoland is in shock. |

The Cubs should have won these last two games. Maybe there is something to the Billy Goat Curse.

Irony kills me sometimes. On the night where America was expecting comedy from an unconventional source (The VP debate) they did get comedy from an unconventional source but it had nothing to do with politics.
I was listening to sports radio today and they were calling The Cubs game last night "A Comedy Of Errors" because it was actually funny (in a morbid way if you are a Cubs fan) as to how many errors their infielders committed last night. Sweet Lou's press conference was also a gem with his "evaluation" (if you can call it that) of Kosuke Fukudome last night. If you didn't hear Lou's post-game press conference it seemed he was just a stone throws away from blowing his top, that it only would've taken one idiotic question from a member of the press because seriously if you can locate on the internet, give it a listen because its Lou Pinella in rare form. Great stuff! FTR: I don't believe in curses. I believe in good baseball and bad baseball. I have no problem admitting that The Yankees played horrible postseason baseball in 2004 allowing the Red Sox to eventually overtake them in that series. I don't believe in any of this "curse reversed" nonsense personally. Just like I don't believe in any billy goats, black cats, Bartmen or whatever is going on in Chicago. I do believe in Joe Torre however who is again showing why he may be the best postseason manager of the modern era. |

Alright to be fair I really need to take The Angels to the woodshed here. What a disgraceful two games this club put on in front of their home fans.
Tonight they had bases loaded galore a few times and brought the bare minimum amount of runners in. Take the top of the 8th inning for example, the only run these clowns could get in was on a sac fly! - THE SO CALLED BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL AND ALL YOU CAN GET IS A SAC FLY!!!!!! Man it was written about earlier in the week about the pathetic New York Mets but this is the kind of heartless performance that makes fans stay away from the stadium and exposes the team as being a money pit. I'm sorry but the way The Angels played baseball over these past few days is every bit of a disgrace as the way The Cubs have played in this postseason. I don't want to hear about how The Angels have not performed well in the postseason against The Red Sox, again you had runners in scoring position all night, the starter knocked out of the game five innings in and you never managed to take the lead in the game. Baloney!!! They are done, finished period. They are facing Josh Beckett in that packed Fenway Park in Boston on Saturday, all the best of luck to ya Angels...you have revealed yourself to be the ultimate product of playing in a weak division and being the big fish in a small pond. PS: Mike Scioscia needs to take a hit here. Everything I've heard all season is this man is the best mind in baseball. I'm sorry but its now two postseason series against The Red Sox and the team from Beantown has embarassed The Angels twice. They laugh in the Angels face, they love coming to LA to play The Angels in the postseason because The Angels team has no heart in the postseason. Scioscia the baseball mastermind????!!!!! He isn't anywhere near Joe Torre or Terry Francona for that matter. This message has been edited. Last edited by: JohnMill, |

Brewers finally win a game but it sure don't look good for those cubbies tonight not scoring any runs so far and down 2-0 in the 6th....

The Cubs......damn it!! Outscored 20-6 in 3 games. The way their offense was this year, you'd expect a 6 run INNING out of them with regularity. THAT WAS UGLY. It's one thing to lose, but to get your ass beat by a team that you should be able to handle, that's unacceptable. I realize that the Dodgers came into the postseason pretty hot, but still....there are no easy answers for a collapse of this magnitude.
The Brewers may have won, but Philly will still win this series. Boston looks damn tough right now, and the Ray's have been impressive as well. |
