Wal-Mart Worker Fired Over Semi-Naked Photo


MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) - A Wal-Mart greeter was sacked for apparently showing too much of his friendly side to customers.

Dean L. Wooten, 65, was accused of greeting customers with a computer-generated photo of himself in which he appeared to be naked - except for a carefully placed Wal-Mart bag - and of telling customers that Wal-Mart was cutting costs and the sack was the company's new uniform.

A supervisor at the Muscatine store where Wooten had worked for seven years told him to knock it off after customers complained. He was fired five days later, in September, after he displayed the photo again.

Wooten's application for unemployment compensation was rejected by an administrative law judge, who said ``a reasonable person would know the act of showing a naked body wearing a Wal-Mart sack would not be good for the employer's business.''

Wooten said he did not see the harm in the photo, which he said was made by a friend who spliced a picture of Wooten's head onto a shot of another man's body.

``When I first seen it, I pretty near died laughing,'' he said.

how could someone bitch & get him in trouble? christ, if my dad would get in trouble everytime he'd do something like that, that sucker would be in prison....my dads a riot. thats why i laugh at this, i'm used to altered pics & just plain fucked up jokes from my own dad...

Workers who ridicule their employer, especially if even 1% of customers find it rude, off-putting or anyway inappropriate, should expect to lose their jobs.
To then expect workman's compensation for doing something like that shows bad judgement and bad reasoning.

I consider the stunt funny, but that makes no difference.

People ought to respect their employer or find work elsewhere.

I agree with you Blue and also thought it was funny- but to list it as one of the top stories of the hour was too much. Funny to read about but I know if I went into my local Kmart-Walmart-Kiwiemart and the greeter met me with a semi-nude photo of himself at any age, I'd turn around and shop some place else.

If I entered a Wally World store and were greeted by a guy wearing nothing but a bag, I'd turn around and vamoose! This reminds me of a story I heard a couple of years ago about a guy who decided it would be really funny to play a practical joke on the company he worked for. As he emptied the coffeepot in the breakroom, he made a new batch, then urinated in the coffeepot...unbeknownst to him, this was all caught on a surveillance viedo..naturally he was fired for this...pretty stupid of him to think he could get away with this, especially as many employees noticed the coffee had a funky flavor that day..gross.

^Omg! That's truly disgusting. How could he think that was funny?
