This is new tool for music artists on myspace where it tells you who looks at your profile the most, and what age and sex groups view the most frequently. It gives charts and numbers for both visitors and myspace friends.

I was surprised to find that..

-90.9% of the views on my myspace page come from female visitors
-Only 9.1% were males
-The biggest age group that checks my profile out is the 25-34 group...58% of all my profile views come from that age range

Another interesting thing that gets charted is which individual states people are from who look at my profile. Obviously Kentucky and Ohio are my top two, but strangely enough New Jersey is third, Indiana is fourth, and Illinois is fifth. I can't figure out why Illinois or New Jersey would be so high on the list.

People from the city of Louisville, Kentucky look at my profile more then any other city. 54% of my music profile views come from Louisville. This is strange to me...I've never played there. I've played Lexington and Frankfort, two of the bigger cities in Kentucky...but Louisville is pretty far from me. It's about a two hour drive. As far as I'm aware I do not have a lot of friends around there, but I have sold some CD's online in that area to random people.

Either way this new tool on myspace is extremely useful. It's really opening my eyes to who pays attention to my profile and songs.

Why are you so mean?

The thread is actually about the new myspace feature, which I find fascinating. Don't read it if you don't like it. There's no need to be mean.

Actually, might not be entirely accurate. If it goes by IPs, it could simply mean that the ISP is located in the city. I know this because for a while, my IP address showed up as being in Halifax. Though now it actually shows the right location.

So far it hasn't explained how it gets the statistics. I'm assuming everything is based upon individual people who are signed in and it tracks their basic information (such as city, state, sex, age).

It doesn't tell me which actual users are viewing, it just charts the statistics.

There's no documentation?

Personally, I tried myspace for about a week and got sick of it and haven't signed in since. Same with facebook.

Not yet. I only have a myspace so that people can listen to my songs and see when I'm playing live. It's a nice lazy substitute for a real website. I've met many other musicians there and the place has proved to be a great tool for making friends and networking.

I use facebook to keep in touch with personal friends.

Myspace is driven mostly by a younger people and predominantly female; so, there is no surprise in the age group and gender of the views. And, unless every state had an equal number of people registered on myspace, it is inevitable there will be larger concentrations of people in one state over another. Friends “add” friends, as you did; they don’t cherry pick the state. You don’t have to play a certain state to get ‘hit’ on myspace. People get friends requests from all over the world.

I think it's a great new tool for myspace music artists.
