99.9 , 92.5, or 92.7, depending upon exactly where you are in the greater Chicago area. Its not even a rock station, its one of those "play anything" stations. Anyway, I e-mailed a request in for the tune for the hell of it just to dare them to play it (which at the time they didn't). I had no expectation that they would even consider it. I just checked my e-mail for the first time in days, and I noticed that one of the DJs responded to my request by saying that her boss had the Mudcrutch CD at home, and he was going to bring it so they could "rip it into the system". Haven't heard it yet, but I'll start keeping an ear out for it. I thought that was pretty cool. I believe you can listen to the station online at weplayanything.com (DO NOT listen late at night, because all they play is shitty dance music until the wee hours of the morning). You can make requests at that site as well, and the station plays an hour of requested songs during the noon hour (Central time). They tend to play a decent amount of Petty tunes on that station, so if enough people request Mudcrutch, they just might be predisposed to play it more often!

Nothing like more servings of “catfish pie in gris gris bag”. It should be on radio station menus everywhere. (Good to read JT is doing well Thunderhead -- time moves, don't rush this period even if some nights seem to crawl).
Check one-two, check... For real |

Definitely should get more airplay. That station mentioned above was one of the few non-rock outlets that put Saving Grace into pretty heavy rotation a couple of years ago when it came out, so I have hopes that Mudcrutch can break thru on there as well. Fingers crossed!

Agreed, Thunderhead, but shouldn't it be called "Lover of The Food of The Bayou"? I mean you have Tom salivating over catfish...chicken pie....blood in a rusty can....becoming the Hunger Man. Come on...the tune is a culinary delight!
Remember that song by Starline Vocal Band? Well...Tom kinda has (with swallowed words, like Wiki is stuck on) : "Gon fine mah baybee. Gon hold her tigh. Done grab some catfish in a gris gris bag. Mah mottos always ben When its right its righ Wanna suck some chicken pie off my fingah? When, its a little clearer in the light of day Aaann, you know the night is gonna be here anyway. (Here, sip some of this rusty blood...) Thinking of his workin up an appetite Lookin' forward to a little, crawfish pie. Rubbin sticks and stone together make the sparks ignite, Gonna het up that chicken pie, 'til the temperature's jess right." Yes, its a great song...but I just don't think it's quite finished. Lover of the Bayou should really be sung with one's mouthful of saw grass jelly or something. |

They have been playing that on our Reno station 100.1 the X and they always talk about how great the new Mudcrutch is.

Lover of the Bayou is such a good tune. I think when all is said and done, it will end up being my all around favorite from the album. The crickets at the beginning, the intro guitar, the drums kick in and then Tom drops the bass in behind and BOOM the ride has started and it doesn't disappoint. The guitar solos, Tom's sneer of a delivery. Maybe the most rockin' Tom Petty song ever? Maybe.
And I can't say that Bayou is my favorite without mentioning Crystal River. Four months later and I still listen to the whole 9.5 minutes and enjoy every second of it. I don't know how that's even possible. |

Crystal River is THAT long? Hadn't noticed.
I like the crickets too. You have them in the song before. Same cricket track. Then the song is over, the crickets snap off, and LOTB starts. And the crickets start up instantaneously. AMOR (A Miracle of Recording.) |

Dal must be talking about a boot Bluegill. I don't think it is that long on the record.
The only problem with Crystal River live is I couldn't kick back and dream. I had to still stand. lol ************************************** Blues is the roots, everything else is the fruits (Bo Diddley) |

9 minutes 28 seconds by my count on the CD.
It was a lot longer live. That's one experience I wish memory would do justice. It was probably my favorite concert experience of all time. I think Santa Barbara was the best one because the crowd was lackluster before and then completely dumbfounded and stunned afterward. It was incredible. |
