I think some of you diehard fans might be able to shed some light to my question: Do you think Tom Petty may ever read these message boards? I always wanted to send him a note. How reasonable is this fantasy?

I guess we all think that it would be nice if Tom and the band saw the messageboards. Tom loves his fans and is truly humbled by all the love and adoration poured on him by his admirers. Still, I wouldn't post a question and expect an answer - or post an important or urgent message and expect a response.

I think the boards are really just for us to have fun and talk about the music.

Dear Fans:

Great to see your excitement concerning the new LP. However, please remember that 30 second clips cannot offer you a true perspective of this album. More than any Heartbreakers work, this one deserves to be heard in its entirety to be appreciated. I promise you the more you listen, the more you will find in this music. The band and I are extremely proud of The Last DJ, and are banking on people having longer attention spans than current media trends give them credit for. Anyway, be patient, it won't be long now. Band and I currently trying to just keep up with an enormous work load, but lots of fun ahead.

P.S. The Olympic shows are gonna be really great. Again, we love you all. And proud to have you on this leg of our ongoing musical journey.

Oh, I almost forgot about Howie's memorial service. Dana posted as "The Petty's" and told us about a memorial service for Howie Epstein in February 2003. It was nice - we were all so upset - that they let us know they were reading the boards and knew how sad we all were about Howie.

I find it inspiring that tom would ocassionally check in and read what people have to say. Not only does it confirm for him that he music is appreciated, but also that all who come here truly care about the kind heart and soul he has. Keep posting messages and who knows maybe it will make a difference.

I hope they do make a difference too, and they might, in some microscopic way. But...having posted in one form or other since mid'99...I find the biggest satisfaction I get from posting is to myself. It clears out the mind, helps me distill what I'm thinking, lessens anger...

So... I wonder if Tom ever reads these? hmmmm...
(Just kidding, FenderBender. Wind it back down, girl ) Since Tom probably gets a chuckle from grazing here once or twice a year, that's a good thing too.

But...you have to believe like Shelter does. You can't post thinking it counts for anything. You can't post and expect change.

Oh.. didn’t noticed that until now Bluegill but.. is that “like Shelter does” irony on you part?!

Anyway.. Much like you Bluegill I too find the biggest satisfaction to be myself. I am really good.

However.. since I’ve got some strange indications that certain crusades haven’t passed unnoticed, I always try to remain my own bad ass self.. even if it’s hard not to start giggling at times..

Whether my indulgence amount to anything substantial I highly doubt though. I’m just an image to you, much like Tom is. In the real world though.. I am real.
