It seems we can use this forum now. I'm still dusting myself off. I don't know where to begin.

Anyone want to help me get a new thread started?

I could write a book with all my crazy experiences this summer. For now, I'll just note that I am glad I got sucked into this message board, cause it led me to meeting some great people and more concerts than planned this year. Thanks guys for being a bad influence on me!!

Got passport? No, but I can work on that. Keep on being the bad influence on me...you caused some great memories I wouldn't have had otherwise. Of course, I'm an easy target when it comes to getting me to go to HB shows....like offering a beer to an alcoholic.

If I thought TP&HB were bad for you I wouldn't taunt you about going to shows Smile

(Like you need the taunting! Sheeeeeesh!)

Of course severe cases might be sent to a specialized 'Clear Channel' facility where endless hours of top 40 FM radio are applied to numb the senses and develop an insatiable desire for lite beer.

Come on Firefly...do you really think a security guard at a venue can treat us with respect? They are usually young, egotistical guys that live for breaking up fights and that's it....aka meatheads!

I agree with Michelle's observation. I know at Devore the security guy we were chatting with before the show was stationed at the nearby Airforce base. It was his first time doing the job and they had him working the front of the stage.

I worked with a woman years ago who did security jobs at concerts. Anyone can get a job doing it, because she told me if I wanted to do it just let her know. They are all temp, from show to show, and have no experience whatsoever.

It's no wonder they aren't willing to do anything or answer any questions. They don't know anything!!!

I really love this band, they are my life, my music has so much of their influence. They are a huge part of my life, even at school ppl know me as the tom petty kid, some ppl actually thought my name was tom petty.

I was so happy to be able to get 19th row seats at SPAC, and in the future I now do not want to be any farther back, I had a sign that said Black Leather Woman, hoping they'd play it, and Tom looked at it (with his hands over his eyes) and said I see it, of course I was behind the sign, but that nite he looked at me a couple times as I was the only perosn standing up during Angel Dream and Melinda. It was the best nite of my life, cant wait till they tour again!

Here's my story:
I went to the Marysville show alone and sat next to a guy who was also there alone. I call him Dentist Guy because I refer tho him often in recounting my great concert experience, but I think he brokers dental offices. Anyhoo, I'm 5'2" so I suffer from CSS at any venue without a 20 degree incline. Marysville's seating arrangements are awful, so I couldn't see. I'm there to see Petty, so I figure I'll stand on my seat (the fold-down kind) and that will put me at about head level with everyone else. I warned Dentist Guy that I might fall on him and he assured me that would be OK. Unfortunately, that happened.

I was at the Indianapolis show this summer where it rained.. RAINED. It was thundering and lightning the whole time and during the chrous Free Fallin' it started to rain and then the power went out. After several seconds, it came back and the band picked right where they let off. The next song, the power went out again, but this time the audience kept singing and when the power came back on, Tom picked back up where the audience was singing - Awesome. After that 'they' (aka the man) called the show and sent 15000 drunk people off into the storm, it rained 2" in an hour and half and my car still smells musty from sitting me in it, soaked and stuck in traffic. Big Grin

Most things that I worry about, never happen anyway.

I'll have to say that the security guards at the Rolling Stones (Soldier Field) concert were excellent. Very respectful, coordinated with each other and kept things well under control. Of course I do think half of them were private security provided by the Stones.

Had to move this post because posts over their (Heartbreakers Beach Party > question about tom) have gone haywire, it just doesn't seem to fit under the thread anymore but then I'm not sure if it fits in this thread:

PattyPetty: "Now don't make me get Cathee after you. She goes ballistic over that stuff.. you know when people tell other people when they can or can't post."

Very ture Patty. And don't think others are jalousie of em meeting Tom I'm not. Never did care to meet Tom don't know what I'd say to him....maybe now "...come up and visit me in Cherokee County, GA and we'll hunt down your families past." Big Grin Cool MY LIFETIME experience with 'this band of artists' was having Mike and Tom come out and play to me at Berkeley last month especially after I had mentioned 'Benmont's piano should be placed back so Tom & Mike can come over and play for those sitting in the front row with obstructed view." or something like that it in the first thread started about the Friday show at the Greek. Plus, back three years ago had an ongoing conversation about Tom singing 'Psychotic Reaction' with some fans here, then a month or so later Tom did 'Psychotic Reaction' at the Vegas show I was at and another city. Now is someone reading through these boards and passing bits & pieces of info back to 'the boys', am I psychic or psycho Eek On top of all that my second show seeing them in Atlanta Tom was singing to me, it was 'very' intimate and personal experience’ Razz So guess you could say that Tom and I have met on a higher plain so no intros are needed Cool Smile

Sorry for the double post Smile

LOL.LOL.LOL. oooooooh FitToFly (formerly known as Ruined) once again you made me laugh hysterically! Big Grin Took me a few minutes to figure out what CSS means.... I got it. Wink Red Face I am also 5'2," so everyone is a giraffe to me - at the movies, at Church, you name it! My neck gets sore and stiff from stretching it so much or ducking in wierd positions to try and see through any space I can find. I was very lucky at the Paso Petty concert to NOT for once be sitting/standing behind giraffes. We stood the whole time, as I'm sure you remember, but because I was on an angle and second row in that angle and on "stage right" (their right, our left) PERFECT VIEW. The big screens helped immensely. But, I know some people are even too short to see the big screens! Again, I was lucky on 8/4- no obstructed view. Big Grin

So sorry you had a close encounter of the Petty kind with Mr Dentist Guy. Good thing you're married, huh?

That is SO funny!

Reminds me of a story from last tour:
Was enjoying the show.
(Really was! The seats that I was not too excited about at first were in the lap of acoustic heaven...and this really nice and handsome guy came and sat in the seat next to me...)
So...the show is rolling along and building some momentum. My friend to my left was holding up a sign. This was met with anger and derision from the fans whose view she was blocking...i.e. they CSS...yet, she persisted in holding up her sign.

At some point she looked to me to offer some assistance for her cause.
Ahh...but the music sounded so good...the the handsome guy on my right was so nice...and had even offered me a hit of his marijuana. And I could really understand the ire of the fans whose view was blocked, who now were so upset that they threatened bodily harm to my friend!

So here I am:
to the left of me is mayhem,
to the right of me is bliss.

Finally, my friend tearfully tore up her sign and placed it on the floor. The angry fans who had called her awful things finally retreated. My handsome seatmate on my right was now oblivious. Amazing things happen when people CCS! Roll Eyes
