Four days home from Bonnaroo and I got drop some thoughts off. This seems a good a place as any being the Tom Petty fan that I am and always will be. What a ride. Emotionally draining and fun letting it all go. I find myself needing to express feelings and let it go so I can empty my head and clear some space for my family. So here it is. Bonnaroo was awesome. I’ll be married 20 years in Aug. and I (smart rocking woman of the world I am) got Aunt Gini to watch my teenage kids and took my husband and rocked. Not one unkind word was spoken between us for four days. Good sex, Good beer, Good herb, Good soul feeding. The vibe was all good. Music took us places we forgot we wanted to go and reminded us of places we had been. Emotionally, spiritually, physically, It was all good. God, Luck, Karma, all of it rolled into to one big fatty. AHHHHHHH.
Middle of the night thoughts…. I miss the lighters and the sound of the crowd being one before the encores. Glow sticks abound and it’s all good but it ain’t the same sometimes and niether am I. Life rolls on. And Yeah I got Lucky and got to say a quick heart felt thank you to Tom. Right place, right time, Good Fan Karma. I have seen this awesome band play together since the 70s while I moved around the states and now after living in Indiana for, oh shit, 14 years I would see Tom and the Heartbreakers every time they came to Deer creek or Chicago, but mostly Deer Creek. Me and my buddy Joey (shes a trip and having triplets now) and there were great times I mean great times we had at those shows. I remember smoking some strong something being passed around and not being able to lift my spinning head (but still totally enjoying closing with GLORIA while Joey- Friend for life that she is- just helped me rock through it till my head stopped spinning) more bad luck came when Joey and I waited patiently over the winter and then the show was cancelled. Man a show canceling is so very depressing. And then there was the time I hit the back of a guys car leaving Deer Creek (barely, but still my bad) and had to go straight to the ATM and fork over 3 bills so I wouldn’t get any heat. I was doing some fast talking that night. And yes the most disappointing time when I lucked into front row tickets on ticketmaster and got too excited and put in the credit card number wrong and lost the seats. Shit I was bummed, but me and Joey still showed and hustled OK seats on the side and rocked. Learning to fly was fun that night the crowd was into it. So All that kinda shit goes with the rock and roll fan territory. It isn’t always easy but it is always satisfying. I need my soul to be fed and the band in their wisdom always helps me dream a little dream, redirect my focus and feel the sounds run through me like an ocean wave. Nothing better than that. Soooo a big heartfelt thank you to the band that has sustained me through so much. Ok, now I won’t be running this shit through my head at 4 or 5 am. I will always appreciate the connection with TP and the Heartbreakers and be a better woman for it. I love just being a fan. We’ll be kickin it at Deer creek this Friday and that’s my last show for the summer. Gotta go be Mom. It’s a good place to be too. Thanks to the forum for letting me get it out. Enjoy. |

6/20/6 - REVIEW: Bonnaroo: SPIN
SPIN.com (definitely log onto this one - lots of photos from the show, nice review, a TERRIFIC photo of the stage/audience that will knock your sox off.) Tom Petty Owns the What Stage June 17, 2006 Friday night's headline set from the rock legend featured all his massive hits, pls a special guest spot by Stevie Nicks. Suddenly, Tom Petty is the coolest rocker on earth. Not sure when exactly that happened, but no one could have stood as tall upon Bonnaroo's main stage last night. Playing a barrage of his massive radio hits -- "Refugee," "Mary Jane's Last Dance," "Don't Come Around Here No More," and the epic "Freefallin'" -- Petty bathed in the crowd's warm responses for every moment of his two-plus-hours onstage. Even better: an impromptu duet with Stevie Nicks on "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around." Spin climbed the rafters and got these amazing shots of the stellar headline set. THIS IS FROM TP.COM NEWS SECTION. Guess I better go see all the pics! |
