I used to see Tom Petty every Wednesday night in Berkeley at Berkeley Square. The Heartbreakers and the Greg Kihn band shared the lineup and traded off headlining. It was always a great show and Tom Petty has one of the few bands that always sounds as good live as recorded. Even then, before fame and fortune hit, they were phenomenal live and it was obvious they would be huge someday... I feel so lucky to have been there... My boyfriend is quite jealous!

Welcome!

I'm jealous too! I didn't see them until around '82, even though I was listening since '77.

Can I assume by your user name you might live in Cambria, CA? When I first saw the name I thought my Mom might have decided to check out what all the fuss is about. She lives in Cambria. She doesn't quite understand this TPATH obession my sister and I have.

Just curious: about what year was this?! I had no idea!

I also remember that the Greg Kihn Band used to play a lot at the Keystone Palo Alto. TPATH didn't ever co-headline there...or did they?

I am horrible with dates... I lived there in 1977- 1979 so I am pretty sure it was in that time frame. They had two other "Keystone" clubs (SF & Palo Alto) but this was a regular weekly gig and those places had bigger acts usually. Berkeley was a little hole in the wall club compared to the others.

^Believe it or not, there was a Keystone in Berkeley too at one time. Jerry Garcia and Bob Marley played there. It was on University Avenue right where Shattuck turns through that intersection.

Berkeley Square was/is quite the famous little hole in the wall. Is it still there?

Thanks for sharing the story of TPTH playing there.

I'll give you a hint: She used to live at the Piedras Blancas lighthouse.

Well, she didn't live IN the lighthouse, she lived in one of the houses adjacent to it - Im not even sure they are still standing.

Athena and I got married in 'her' backyard -- surrounded by loving family, friends, the ocean, and elephant seals, otters and sea birds.

I miss the peace and seclusion of the lighthouse.

Hope things are excellent up in Cambria. Listening to the wind in the pines and watching the butterflies and woodpeckers fly by is so peaceful.

Peace
