Hell yeah! Let's hope he comes back soon, but the tickets have to be cheaper than $15,000 a piece. That's just a little too high for me Wink

My mother and I go to see quite a few shows every year, but I told her that the next time Tom comes around, I will gladly give up going to see different artists if we can both follow TPATH around our area.

She liked the idea. Big Grin

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*The show's most thrilling moment, "Don't Come Around Here No More," with Nicks on backing vocals and tambourine, ended in a crashing, surreally strobe-lit jam with both Petty and Nicks thrashing like teenagers. In that moment, their silky blond hair flying, flash frozen in the strobe's white light, they seemed both timeless and immediate, classic and forever young.*
WinkEvery time I've seen TP the ticket prices were always resonable. Last year I was five rows from the stage and I think I spend $75. Tom's been an advocate of not raising the prices to go to concerts shows.
^ Oh my, $75? I was in the second row, and I paid $400 for tickets for my mom and I, but it was worth it!! Petty's Girl, my mom and I do the same thing that you and your mom do. I said the same exact thing to my mom about chasing Tom Petty around. Next time he goes on tour, his concerts will be the only ones that I will be attending that year!
I hope you get the chance. In 2005, my dad and I followed TPATh around the northeast. Over 8 days we saw 5 shows- in Camden, NJ, Mansfield, MA, Holmdel, NJ, Jones Beach, NY, and Hartford, CT. It was the best week ever! Every year we try to do a few things together, just to spend some time hanging out, and usually going to concerts because we both love it. This year so far was a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame trip (which I really should write ALL about, it was so cool.) I hope you continue to do stuff with your mom for a long time. My Dad and I don't get to see each other that much since I all got a CAREER and all.
^You guys are lucky. My parents would never let me folow around TPATH.
People who obsessively and relentlessly follow a band around have more money than brains and too much time on their hands. It is a very costly and time consuming endeavour and, as far as I'm concerned, it's a form of stalking (albeit "innocuous"). And, I'm not talking about people who follow a band around one year and be done with it, as in kellykelly's case with her father, or people who take in a few shows when they are within a reasonable distance of their home. I'm talking about people who do it "every" tour - who even travel long distances (even by airplane) and who'll go to great lengths to get front row seats even if it costs them 2,3,4 times the face value for a "scalped" ticket - and it's primarily the same people and predominantly women (just watch any one of the concerts on DVD where the cameras scan the first few rows of seating - it's 99.99999999% women. And, there's more going on than just following Tom Petty around for the love of his live performances. What do these people hope to gain? Get noticed? Get their mug on camera/film? Possibly, get to meet Tom Petty? Hope to get backstage? Hope to corner Tom Petty and cop a feel?
Sounds great, Kelly! My son and I see lots of concerts together, too. We both LOVE rock & roll and now that he's on his own and living in another city, it's "our" thing we do together.
We've seen many great shows, including lots of TPATH, of course! Smile
Thank God for money and too much time! And friends to share the experience with.
You mean thank God for 'more money than brains'? ahaha People can still create/share wonderful experiences with friends without chasing Tom Petty around, from venue to venue. Otherwise, if all your memorable experiences with friends revolve around Tom Petty, then it's really not the moments with your friends you cherish. You need someone to hold your hand as you trapse the country side chasing Tom Petty.
P.S. When I say "you", I mean it generally speaking.
Well, I can't wait until the next tour so I can traipse the country side some more. I may even get on a plane - again! I don't need anyone to go with me, either. For example - Florida last year, I went by myself and met a bunch of the coolest Tom Petty fans ever! If something similar to that can happen every tour from now until forever, I'm in it for the long haul. I guess I may be one of "those" people after all. Hey, I'll end up seeing the country, won't I? If anyone thinks this is bull$hit, you're entitled to your opinion. I'm really good at being a fan, I enjoy it, and I think I've picked a cool band to be a fan of, a band with lots of other like-minded fans. And if it stops being fun, then I stop going to shows. Right now, I'm looking forward to the next tour - I think I'm going to go to Colorado!!!
I think if you can get the time off of work and you have the money to buy tickets and airfare and often hotels etc it's great. If that's what you like to do and you can do it, good for you.
I think its often a case where the younger fans can do this if they don't have a spouse or kids and/or a mortgage to worry about and plenty of vacation time.
I've enjoyed being able to see the band a few times every tour, but TPATH are the only band I do multiple shows for if I can. I see lots of other bands as well but always locally in Toronto.
Some people enjoy gambling, some enjoy expensive Caribbean vacations, some plunk their money down on expensive designer clothes or cosmetic surgery. What ever people want to do is fine with me if they can afford it.
Personally, I'd like to move on to something else a little more exciting IF I could afford to do so. I recently spent an incredibly enjoyable 3 days in Montreal at the F1 Grand Prix. It was a VERY expensive long weekend. If money were no object I'd like to follow the team around to all the races located all over the world. That would be fantastic.
Until then..
My favorite way to spend a vacation is driving a lot, being overtired, overtraveled, sleeping not enough wherever I can crash, seeing lots of places & stuff I don't normally see, eating junk food and doing incredibly fun and exciting things. So, following a band is exactly my cup of tea. I may tire of it eventually, but I hope I don't!
No offense but that's not my idea of "living life". I like to live/experience life as it "unfolds", "unpredictably" and "spontaneously" - not predicated on someone else's whereabouts and schedule - boarding planes, trains, buses, and whatever - things you wouldn't do, "normally", if you weren't chasing a band.
So do I. Smile But I still prefer to live life "unpredictably" and "spontaneously". That's when exciting things happen - not when one's schedule revolves around someone else's. That's too "regulated" a lifestyle for me.
I think I really like making plans - it's a personality trait of mine. And that's why I'm good at my job, too - I'm a "scheduling coordinator". I do like to throw the plans out the window sometimes and live off my wits. it's fun to force yourself to adapt when you have no plan.
