It's fun to read the variety of posts--some of us are long time fans and some are new. I think that's because of the quality and versatility of Tom Petty's music. I've been a fan for about 25 years. How about the rest of you out there?

I always like his music - but I was no big fan *hangs head in shame* until the Wilburys.

Now He was in the top rank along with George, Jeff, and Bob.

Fist saw him then for the Great Wide Open tour.

Then I was / is a fanatic - driveing my friends crazy with " How 'bout a little Petty music?"

Had heard "Breakdown," "Listen To Her Heart," I Need To Know" on the radios of the older kids in the neighborhood and my brother... then came 1979 and Damn The Torpedoes hit the shelves and I bought it with saved allowances... I was an instant diehard fan from then on in. Big Grin

hello CD listeners, we have come to the point on this album where those listening on cassette or records will have to stand up or sit down and turn over record or tape. In fairness to those listeners we will now take a few seconds before we begin side two... Thank you... Here's side two - tom petty, 1989

I would say I've been a fan ever since my family first got MTV, in 1985 I think...

Lately I get a faraway feeling, and the whole thing starts again.

I guess since 1979. Have seen many shows. I remember he was very popular in the 80's. Then it kind of died out for a while. Then the 95 tour his popularity just exploded and evryone said you gotta see this band. DUH, where you been? But the last 2 tours have been really, really fab. Looking forward to other tours!! Cool

July/August 2002 is when I started going hard-core--but I had known a few things of theirs before then.

Saw my firts "TP & HB's" concert at age 4...in 1974. Of course they were called Mudcrutch then and had not yet left our hometown to go to California. (Yes, I am from same hometown as Tom.) I have been a fan of TP&HB's since 1978 or so when the first album came out. I was 8 and my parents had it...I loved the music and still do today. Have the band logo tattooed on my body and have been to at least 10 concerts over the years. Glad to know I'm not the only one who loves them. Smile
