I voted for 76-81 though I really like all eras very much.

You're Gonna Get It
Damn The Torpedoes
Hard Promises

all came out while I was in High School so I guess that period really stands out to me. You're Gonna Get was getting some air play and I Need to Know and Listen to her Heart were popular (American Girl and Breakdown were still getting airplay as well). Damn the Torpedoes hit and Tom Petty was a house hold name. It was cool seeing all the people wearing their DTT concert shirts after he played Detroit. Hard Promises was one of those highly highly anticipated records and it delivered!
