Free Fallin
I wont back down
you wreck me
Wildflowers
Runnin' down a dream
Have love will travel
The last dj
The Waiting
American Girl
Walls
Kings highway
Good to be king
Honey bee
Anything thats rock n roll
Breakdown
Something in the air
Mary janes last dance
Dont do me like that
Scare easy
Handle with care

Learning to fly
Into the great wide open
Down south
Saving grace

Keepin' me alive
Here comes my girl
A face in the crowd

Well, I think I can´t really say which one is his best song. There are so many songs I love, most of them you didn´t even mention. What´s with "You Wreck Me", "Too Much Ain´t Enough", "I Don´t Wanna Fight", "Makin´Some Noise", etc.? These are some of my favorites.
But since "Mary Jane´s Last Dance" (and video) aroused my interest in his music, I´d say this song is the most important song for me. I can´t even describe what it did to me. That simple guitar riff and the harmonica... killer! It´s just not from this world... And I never get tired of that song... Smile

Another best song of him is "The Damage You´ve Done"! Damn, why the heck am I the only one thinking this? lol

^ Agreed.

Plus, here we are at the Room At The Top group of threads, and Room At The Top isn't even listed as a choice. That was a great album...

This reminds me of a bird in the forest being allowed to listen to only one song. In order to survive, I think the bird would have to have only one emotion, only one facet to it's personality. This question cannot then really be answered.

I think your a bit out of step here Frown . no offence . I posted 33 fucking choices and yet here you are complaining about leaving out some of your most loved. Personally in my opinion I posted a more than satisfactory list which had a broad range of choices.

Swingin' - like George of the Jungle baby...
This song just came out at the right time in my life I think - I love the entire Echo album.

It’s very hard to make a choice. My favourite song depend on period and on what I need to listen, both like lyrics and music. In this time I privilege Walls, above all the live versions, but I like very much Free Fallin’ and Refugee Smile

makes a good point. I've been a Petty fan all along, always bought the next album as soon as it came out, etc. When I got Echo, it didn't connect with me at all. A few years later, after dealing with some losses in life, I happened to drop it into the CD changer and now it's just about my favorite album of all time.

This is a running theme for many of us. I think because this album is so personal, as soon as the listener reaches that place he/she can connect with it like no other. Echo is my favorite album too, and I voted for "Swingin'", even though I think "One More Day, One More Night" is the best song ever.

I really is too hard to pick just one for me simply because certain songs bring back very specific memories over the years (some good/some bad/some heartbreakers). Because of this, those songs all hold a certain spot in my heart.
