Got I hope an interesting question for the guitarists our there.
Imagine you had to play a show of Petty songs and you were playing the "Mike Campbell" role.
You can only bring one guitar to the show. You have your choice, which guitar would you pick?
My lead guitar player is looking to get a new guitar as his "main" guitar. He's used to using a "335" but it's an older model that can't really be relied on for live shows. Plus, he'd die if it got damamged, it's his "baby".
He's thinking a Les Paul to use, any other suggestions?
I'm supplying the "strat" and 12 string sounds. He's also looking at a "tele" as well, which would you go for?

I'm at the age now where if someone says they have acid, I assume they're talking about reflux.

Well, most would know my answer before I even say it - get the Telecaster. And if you're worried about covering the LP humbucker sound, get a Tele with one humbucker in it bridge or neck - your choice.

Agreed, Telecaster. Specifically, the AVRI52 is what I'd get. But tell your buddy to beware - he may not reach for the 335 very much after that. Wink

I'd have to say the Telecaster. I've seen Campbell do a lot of amazing things, most of them with the Telecaster. Big Grin

An interesting story: I met a girl who was smart, funny, intelligent, agreeable, and as an added bonus... Looked simply stunning! One day as we were looking through my CD collection, I asked "Have you got a favourite Tom Petty song?" She replied "Who's Tom Petty?"

We haven't spoken since.
