He just can't let it be! Wouldn't have it any other way! Well he’s doing again it folks! Paul’s coming out with a 3-disc cd/dvd standard edition and a 4-disc deluxe version with a bonus dvd of his live performance “Good Evening New York City!” As far as I can tell, McCartney has been a a rock inspiration to many other artists and will forever be a legend in my eyes. After everything with The Beatles, the tragic death of some of those members and even the personal battles we don’t know about, Paul McCartney’s music is reaching a status that is sure to continue to leave a profound historical mark on music worldwide. The man seems unstoppable! I unfortunately wasn’t able to attend the show in New York, but there is no way that I’m going to miss out on this combo phenomenon! I just ordered my copy today.

It's hard to properly and completely define the greatness of Paul McCartney. I can easily say that of all of the concerts that I've been to since about 1973, seeing Paul was the single greatest one. It was all I could do to not cry. Explain that.

I saw him in August in Atlanta. Almost 3 hours of classic McCartney/Lennon/Harrison music performed with the energy of a man half his age. It rained, and we danced and sang. Afterwards, thousands of people walked through the dark streets of downtown Atlanta singing the chorus from "Hey, Jude!" It was a night I will remember for the rest of my life.

I have a friend who was at the NY concert and said the same thing we all say, "It was the concert of a lifetime." You can bet I'll be buying this new CD/DVD set.

I think the range of his musical talent is fantastic. I was not able to attend one of the concerts, but I will definitely be getting this release.

It's good to hear that his live shows are good. I have seen him "live" on some specials and kind of came away cold. Very "pitchy" at times.
I did however think him excellent in the "Concert for George" video, though the seeming coldness between him and Ringo was noticeable.

Having said all that, he's the greatest living songwriter, if not of all time.

Iffy,

Watch "Concert for George" again. I got just the opposite impression about the interactions between Paul and Ringo at this concert.

Ringo gets an "attaboy" from Paul when Ringo sings a response line on one of the songs where Paul sings lead.

And, Paul waiting at the edge of the stage to give Ringo a hug as the performers are leaving at the end of the show.

I do watch it from time to time but what I recall was Ringo kind of ignoring Paul when he came out and not mentioning him in his comments.

It may just have been nerves on his part, I don't think he's very comfortable up front.

Wings Over America
More than 600,000 people attended 31 shows in the United States and Canada. In order to reduce the stress of moving their young family around the country during the course of the tour, the McCartneys rented four houses in New York City, Dallas, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Each night, after the show was over, they would fly in a specially-chartered BAC One-Eleven back to the nearest one of the rented houses.

The beginning of the American leg of the tour was delayed for nearly a month because lead guitarist Jimmy McCulloch broke his finger during rehearsals. This led to more friction between McCulloch and the rest of the group, especially McCartney.

A surprise was planned for one of the Los Angeles shows, and the fans in attendance were treated to the sight of McCartney's former Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr joining him on stage and handing him a bouquet of flowers.

Many of the concerts were professionally recorded at McCartney's request. The best performances would later be compiled (after adding necessary overdubs in the studio) and released as a Christmastime triple album late in 1976 called Wings over America. The album was very popular, reaching Number One in the US and Number Eight in the UK. A single was also released from the collection, "Maybe I'm Amazed"/"Soily", a top ten hit in America and a top twenty hit in the UK. In addition, in 1981 a concert film of the Seattle show was released under the title of Rockshow by Miramax.

without a doubt the very best "Rock Show" ( song from Venus and Mars) I ever saw

Paul is incredible. He's absolutely mesmerizing when you see him in person. I'll never forget that concert. Cool

Speaking of Paul McCartney. I happened across a documentory on the effect the Beatles had/have on the former Soviet Union.
Many there literally believe the Beatles played a huge role in the downfall of the Soviet Regime. They were of course banned but the young people kept finding ways to smuggle the music in and spread it.
The Beatles are looked on as nearly national heroes to the Russians. They are still huge Beatles fans and many spent 5 hours in the rain waiting for Paul to do a concert in Kiev.
If anyone doubts the power of music to change the world, they should watch this show. It was called How the Beatles rocked the Kremlin.
