So hubby and I made hotel reservations when Outside Lands was announced, but after much deliberation, opted out of buying tickets to the Outside Lands and decided we would just loiter outside during the TP set. After a nice dinner at the Cliff House, we were walking down Geary Blvd. toward the park when we heard the first notes ring out, and could hear the music very well for the next 10 minutes as we approached the park. Once there, we came upon an opening in the fence where several kids that were at least two decades younger than us were scrambling through. Mind you, my husband grew up in SF and proclaimed that "there's never been a show in Golden Gate Park that I couldn't break into" and I gently reminded him that much time had passed since the days of concerts in the park every weekend. Once through the gate, we had to bushwhack for a bit before we came into a clearing that rose up behind the stage. There we were confronted by another chain link fence and a formidable security guard. Everyone but my husband felt defeated, but Mickey just marched up to the guard and said "I need to get me and my wife in - how much?" The guard said $20, and suddenly everyone (about 15 at that point) rushed up and started offering $10-$20 to get in. The security guard got a little overwhelmed and said "You guys just walk down the hill there and I'm going to walk away." The next thing we knew, we were all backstage, where I'd always dreamed of being, but not that way. We all kept our cool and hustled out the backstage entrance and into the general public area. I'll never forget the kid young enough to be my son who looked back and said quietly "good work, team." And, we were seated just in time to enjoy TP perform Steve Winwood, which was one of the things I most looked forward to about the show. I don't think I would have enjoyed the show nearly as much if I had been sitting there with 60K people for several hours.

That's a great story Smile We saw a few places along the fence line on Sunday where people had obviously made their way in. My sister joked she was going to hop the fence too, just for the hell of it, but she was concerned if she got caught they would take her ticket away.

We were leaving the H-wood Bowl the night of a Sir George Martin/Beatles tribute with a bunch of guest artists & I asked the guard where the nearest ladies room was. He pointed me right to the backstage ladies dressing room! I saw The Bangles changing... lol.
