Disk 4, Track 6 pops out at me.

6. I Won’t Back Down
November 15, 2007 The American Museum of Natural History
New York, New York

I don't believe any of us were at this show/party/fundraiser so this will be a new song to all of our ears. Sweet!

I'm so excited to see all the deep cuts and covers on this set. Glad it's not an extended live greatest hits!!!!

While singing to TPATH, "Quiet Mommy, I'm trying to listen to Thomas." Brett, age 5.
After listening to a Mudcrutch show I asked Brett what she thought about the new Mudcrutch music. Her response: "It's great. I didn't know it would be so thrilling." Brett, age 6.
"All right, now we're at the part of the show that we just go rip roarin crazy. Are you ready to go rip roarin crazy with me?" Tom Petty 6/28/03 Summerfest

from nick,

i can understand some don't want a greatest hits live, but since he has never put one out, this could have been both, deep cuts and hits, there is just so much missing for me, that it is a letdown

Remember when Mike started putting this together is was only going to be 1 cd, then it was 2, then 4 and a 5th was added. They have a TON of material - 30 years worth - that's a tall order to narrow it down to just 5 cds. There's no way they could include everything to make everybody happy. Perhaps Mike has a live anthology #2 up his sleeve...

I like the choices quite a lot. Sure everyone could tweak the list to fit their own preferences a bit more, but overall I'm very happy with the choices here. Especially when considering that some of the songs not here were already released on CD in satisfactory form, such as "Rebels" on the PUTP CD, "King's Highway" on the Playback CD set, and "Shadow of a Doubt" on the RDAD bonus CD (disc 4).]

I'm a bit surprised that "You Don't Know How it Feels" is not here (unless I missed the listing). I won't miss YDKHIF but I thought it would have been included.

If it were up to me, I'd have included "King's Road", since that was a staple of two tours in the early 80's, and interesting in the long concert form.

And... well I could come up with more tweaks, as we all could, but overall I'm very happy with these choices, including unexpected gems like "Nightwatchman", "Louisiana Rain", "No Second Thoughts", and "Century City", so I'll just say nice job!

I'm also ecstatic that the December 31, 1978 "New Year's Eve" concert video will be part of the deluxe set. If I could have picked one concert for them to release to DVD, that would be it. Just about a month to go now!

Kings Road Wembley 1982 was superb, especially as we have a Kings Raod in London, of course

For those of you reading this on the internet, I am not wearing any trousers.

I must admit, I too am a little at odds with many covers that really arent great songs.

Not to take away all the effort that the boys took to make a 5 disc set!

A+ for effort!!!!

C- for song selection!

Also I find many songs are from the same concerts. This tells me that they really never had great quality recordings. We find many Gainsville, San Fran, and Chicago recordings.

Considering we have the Gainsville Concert on DVD via the Documentary, and that the bootlegs of the Fillmore and Chicago shows are easily available years prior, there really isnt much that stands out!

I dont know how I would improve it. This group is blue collar workers!!!!

Cheers,

If MM is happy about the overall selections, then it's Christmas before Thanksgiving for me.

Been pickin' myself up off the floor from what has been released so far. Not a diehard like me, but wait till my honey hears Wild One, Forever. She may have to borrow my smellin' salts.

Great job, thanks for putting this all together.

The only letdown for me is Disc 3.
There are at least three covers there that I don't find very appealing and that could have been replaced by hits or at least genuine TPATH songs.

BUT

as long as My Life/Your World is in, it kinda makes up for that!!! I always wanted to hear an alternate version, even a live one. Yay!

I imagine they were mostly or exclusively working with whatever multitrack recordings they had, right? If they started to take songs from two track masters, you would notice a sharp drop in quality. That is going to narrow down the amount of shows you can draw on.

I think there is a really good balance between staples, deep cuts and covers.

I've noted this over on the superhighway, but either the venue or the date is wrong on The Image of Me. On Oct 10 1987, the band played the NEC, Birmingham, England. First night of the Wembley run was 14 October (I know, I was there!). Wonder if this is a slip on the web announcement, or if the error has been carried over to the packaging of the box.

Especially as you have THE King's Road in London, you mean. The song is about that King's Road:
