Getting "Nightwatchman" right out of the gate was stunning. And that DVD of the 1978 New Year's Eve show absolutely has me drooling. Can't wait.

Once we've digested all of this, we'll just come back and ask for more! :-) Yeah, that's it - volume 2 of The Live Anthology. Sounds good.

I agree with all this too, in a major way. Even though I haven't joined the SH tour, and haven't heard it yet - I'm SO glad that "Nightwatchman" was one of the choices for the live anthology. And the 1978 DVD, wow - of ALL the possible video concert choices, that one was the one I wanted them to release the most. As I said before, a decent quality DVD of that show was the "holy grail" of TPATH concert videos, to my thinking. And now, in 2 weeks and a few days, we're gonna get it (which happens to be one of the songs from that concert/video). In 2 weeks and a few days, Tom and Del (Shannon) will be singing, little "Runaway", on the DVD. And more. Wow, all that in the deluxe box; I better get a towel before I start drooling about it too!

^ LOL! Andrew, I posted in another thread that Best Buy is selling the deluxe set for the same price as the "member discount" on the Superhighway Tour. I had already pre-ordered it for the discount. I hope it doesn't take too long to get it. I'm hoping for Monday the 23rd. If I'd been more patient, I could have driven the 75 miles to the nearest Best Buy on Sunday the 22nd to get it on the release date. But since I have no patience, I'll be at home pouting that I don't have it yet! Wink

Overall, there's some interesting choices and I'm really glad to see Melinda finally show up on an official release.

One song I would have loved to seen make the list was "Free Fallin'" from Sturgis '06. While maybe not the best performance ever of it, hearing Tom mess up the lyrics and then stop the song to acknowledge it was classic. It was one of those "had to be there" moments.

---If it were not for Tom Petty's album "The Last DJ"...it's entirely possible I wouldn't be writing songs today. That album completely changed my life. After hearing it, I knew from that day forward I wanted to write songs.

Speaking of extended jam versions - I was just listening to the '97 Fillmore version of "It's Good To Be King" and that thing is just epic. Tom, Mike, and Ben are all soloing together at one point, and it's just amazing. Too bad they're not including this version on the box set.

I'm not sure why they picked the 2006 version from Gainesville. Possibly because Mike makes a little flub right at the beginning of his first solo on the '97 Fillmore version - but I think it's still a lot better jam.

What do you guys think? Where is your favorite "It's Good To Be King"?

^ The Fillmore 2-7-97 one is a good one...um Hamburg Docks 4-23-99, Fillmore 3-12-99...those are a couple of my favorites.

All those previously mentioned are winners and, IMO, better than the 2006 version. Another one I like a lot is from the 2001 tour. One one leg of the tour, they changed the arrangement of the jam a bit, including a segment where it returned to the main riff a few times.

It's a small difference, and they went back to the standard version in all subsequent tours, but I liked it.

Love to see that Its Good To Be King is being respected as an epic song.

It truly is!

Like I mentionned before, this is the Pink Floyd of Petty Jams!
