Ok so I'm only just discovering things that have been around for you folks forever. Nonetheless I'll throw in my hat as well with all of you that felt this show was AMAZING! Being only a very recent convert I never got to see these guys live. And the Fillmore concert dvd, while good, was filmed so erratically that Soundstage came as a refreshing piece of work that really allowed me to see just how good the band can play. Ohh that Benmont on those keys! Anyway, what I really wanted to find out was...does anyone know what was on the pin that Mike was wearing? Thanks ahead of time.
I don't have the answer to your question, David, but I want to welcome you here. I always love to hear the impressions of those who have discovered this wonderful band.

Given that they were in Chicago and Tom mentioned visiting Chess records and made a point of the great blues singers that came out of Chicago, my guess would be the button has a picture of Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, or John Lee Hooker.
It's definitely a picture of somebody, but I can't see it well enough to tell who it is. Could also be Elmore James, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry or any one of the other great stars that recorded at Chess Records.

Hey, glad you finally got to experience that Soundstage DVD. It is really an amazing performance. I think those performances have started off this whole Heartbreaker's Live Phenomenon that has been going on the past few years, from the Superbowl, to Mudcrutch Live, to the Live Anthology. Melinda was absolutely jaw dropping. Won't Back Down, Refugee!, Thirteen Days, Handle with Care, Born in Chicago, all the great covers! The band was really right on the money, and the intimate setting made the shows really special. Who was better.. Mike, Benmont, Tom? Everybody was great. And Melinda, who actually managed to refrain from going back and watching that cut again? Not easy to do. Good call!

Thanks guys. Guess I thought the pin "might" have been of Carl Wilson. Jeff Foskett of Brian Wilson's band wears one and this reminded me of that. I know Mike and Tom were fans. I loved this concert but what really blew me away was when they did "Wake Up Time". God I love that song. Tom's amazing voice can do so many things and when he does this, well, it's like buttah. I loved the southern blues covers, esp when Tom mimmicks the vocal styles of the singers. I can only say that to be 58 and FINALLY finding this band around 2 yrs ago (don't ask...it's complicated) is like Christmas morning a thousand times over. I simply had no idea until the RDAD documentary which blew me away. I LOVE the Mudcrutch cd too. Is there something live available? Anyway, glad you folks are out there. Most of my friends just rib me for digging an "oldies" band. They simply have no idea how elated I am.
Mudcrutch released "Mudcrutch Live!" which has 4 tracks, The Wrong Thing to Do, Bootleg Flyer, Crystal River, and High School Confidential. It's wonderful.

Boy do I need to catch up! Thanks! It's funny that because I got all this stuff within a very short period of time, I really have trouble remembering which song is which. So many great ones. And as much as I love the way the band can rock out the slower tunes with tom's voice really sweet are some of my favorites. In fact my favorite album is Echo.
David - welcome to our addiction to all things Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. Be aware that it does not subside over time.
Funny you should mention Carl Wilson. I was just watching The Beach Boys at Knebworth, England 1980, and Carl singing "God Only Knows" gets me every time. Miss you Carl!!

Thanks for all the welcomes. One can't help but notice that on some MBs a new poster (and a newcomer to the band as well) is treated like an outcast. I certainly don't feel that here. Just wanted to add that because it is weird when you get excited about something and can't really share it with the folks you know. Most like TP&TH but so far no one has actually indulged me with my new passion. So what! I'm late! At least I found out. And what a find! The Stones "used" to be my 3rd favorite band. Oh well! Yeh, Soundstage really made things even better for me.

As someone who just "discovered" this band 2 years ago myself, I love reliving the thrill with you, David. Let's hope there is a tour this summer, so you can experience an incredible live concert and maybe even meet some of the crazy fans on this Board!

This was on Palladia again last night or the night before, but the info button on my DVR said it was the "Live at the Olympic" Last DJ concert. I wonder if they just screwed up or if there are plans to broadcast that one in HD too on Palladia.

I'm from Connecticut. If ANY form of this band plays together again live I will go WHEREVER they are. Take notice dear sweet wife. Going to see PETTY!!!
^ That's the spirit! I'm from Europe and I'm still hoping for them to do one more tour. I'm only afraid of one thing: fainting! I've been waiting 15 years for this chance (sure they were to Europe long ago but I was too young and couldn't afford a Eurotrip at the time) so there are major chances for this to happen! That would really be silly, I don't want to be carried out on a stretcher and miss any part of a show I've been waiting for for so many years!
Ok so the closest thing I can do right now is catch whatever live item is available...plenty to choose from on YT obviously. But does every concert have the entire audience singing along? So far too many where I can't hear Tom, just an overwhelming audience participation. Not that this is such a bad thing on occasion, but every song gets a bit much. Tell me it ain't so!!!
