While TPATH was performing in Texas tonight, their music was also featured at the Democratic National Convention. "American Girl" was used as part of the sound track for a video presentation about Hillary Clinton leading into her speech before the assembly in Denver. Very cool! Smile

Now when I listen to "American Girl" I envision Hillary mugging at the convention ... a great song spoiled forever, thanks for nothing!

^Why should it matter to you, anyway? You live in Canada.

I loved it. After 3 seconds my phone was ringing. It's too bad Hillary's speech was on Tuesday and not Wednesday or Thursday. Frown

I've never associated Hillary as TP's "American Girl" per say... but that video, and that song... gotta say, worked quite well. Like her or not, she absolutely rocked the house.

Yes, I'm very much aware of America's impact on Canada and the rest of the world. But Hillary's use of, "American Girl," should not "spoil" the song for you "forever."

I love maple syrup, but I'm not going to give it up just because I don't like your prime minister's attempt to gain total control of the waterways via the Northwest Passage. lol

Well I guess I'd prefer to associate the song with Hannibal Lecter as featured in Silence of The Lambs" ... but that's just me.

^that was a killer movie. But some songs are so good and unique that no matter how used, always remain associated with the artist. American Girl is another way of saying Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Free Fallin' breaks the same way.

Lol, that's one reason I try to avoid watching the official video for a lot of songs, especially TP/TPATH songs. I don't even know if TP still does videos, I assume he does, but I haven't seen one for a new song since "It's Good To Be King", which is now about 13-14 years old. My favorite TP/TPATH videos are the ones where it's mainly just the band playing. And even there, I'd rather hear the song a few times without any visuals, before seeing that.

By the way, I watched Hillary's speech, but I missed the "American Girl" part. Even though I prefer to keep songs separate from visuals, I'd have liked to have heard that - mainly because I always like hearing TPATH music in unexpected places.

Hillary really needed TPATH's light show for the background if she used it. It certainly was meant to suit her..

It's got the red white blue stars and all that going on.

I did hear an advertisement that said something about waiting. They cut out just the part where Tom sings The waiting is the hardest part for it.

It does sound like that light show was really good this tour; I guess that's one thing I missed by not seeing any of the concerts this time - this is the first tour I can recall where people commented about the light show accompanying the songs, and it's gotten a LOT of comments.

I saw Hillary earlier, in an interview with Jim Cramer, on his "Mad Money" show. Maybe she was just trying to appeal to people who are focused on economics, but she was terrific in that interview. She really seemed to understand the merits of free trade and growth oriented policies. Now it could be argued that her talk was tailored for that crowd, but no one could doubt that she understood the pro-growth economic concepts, and in great detail.

I can't remember when I've gotten my preferred primary candidate as an option in the general election. This time I was strongly for Rudy Giuliani, but he was out of the race before I even got to vote in the primary. In 1988 I was for Bob Dole, but George Bush (I) won, then in 1996 Dole was the nominee when he was too old and I didn't care. In 2000 I was for McCain over George Bush (II), now we get him at a time when I preferred Giuliani. And for the Democrats this year I preferred Evan Bayh or Bill Richardson - neither went anywhere in the primary (actually I think Bayh dropped out before the primary even started, I don't quite recall now). I guess we settle for the choices we have now, but it's frustrating when your top choice doesn't make it to the general election, at least in the year you want them to make it.

I am not studied on anything a President or anyone in political office needs to be. But it seems to me The President must be a good speaker and have the ability to memorize and give a good speech. The President has the right to declare war. That's pretty much it right?

What I'm really confused about is who are the "other" people that these presidents show up with? Are they decided before I vote? I'm hugely concerned with the elected Presidents "experts" if you will.

I will attempt to answer some of your questions. First of all, the President is not allowed to declare war. That's why we have Congress.

Secondly, there are delegates and super delegates who cast votes for the nominee at the convention. BTW, I have recently learned that these people are NOT "locked" in, if you will, until the convention. So, the answer to your question is, no, they do not decide before you vote.

Maybe this will help:

Oh. Well Bush has me fully in the dark now.

Then the Presidential candidate doesn't know what he may or may not do unless he has picked out his "crew", if you will.

Logically, I want to know who the key players of the crew will be.

Now I have to dig up all this information. All I see is a bunch of people running around going horray for us, where are we having cocktails later at. You know what I mean?

I guess I need to add BOTH parties are guilty of this in my book.

Yeah, I sure do. But, instead of blaming someone, ie., Bush for your confusion, do take the time to dig up all this info. It will be well worth it, and you will get a much clearer picture of how this system works. But, I am somewhat of a geek when it comes to politics and government. I listen to talk radio in my spare time, and it has served me well, IMHO.

There are several good blogs, too. pm me if you're interested.

I will be looking at Congress, myself.

Colorado votes have never counted for President. I don't expect this year to be different.

I would expect these two canidates to be answering some hefty questions in debate. Let's hope it isn't all cutsie. (for lack of a better word). I'm not at all amused by what I am seeing.

I am also curious what the other posters on here know about the process.

Finding facts in the days of blogs is actually making the chore harder for me. Imagine that. lol

Ok, thanks - now I've seen a newer video than "It's Good To Be King". Swingin' from 1999. Pretty bizarre frankly, and not exactly how I would envision the song. But I liked seeing the shots of the HBs in the diner (and endlessly on "hold", I know that feeling).

I agree that the song "Swingin'" would have been great for Hillary last night. Would have taken some guts to play, but would have been memorable and appropriate.
