Tom's intro on the main page is hilarious...I'd wager they didn't give him a script of what to say? Wink

Superb mix. If the flac version sounds this good on quality PC speakers, imagine what the blu-ray version is going to sound like!

Of course, the regret now is the realisation that there's a superb unreleased live album from 1981 in the vault, and we're only ever going to get the tip of the iceberg!

Love it! Great song to be included. Can't wait to see the rest of the tracklist...

That's a great point. And it irks me a bit to think that there's a superb 1981 recording that we likely won't hear in it's entirety. Of all the tours by TPATH, that's the one tour where I haven't even seen a listing of a great recording of any of the concerts. But to be fair, if I were to ask for one song from that tour to be released in excellent quality, it would be "Nightwatchman" so great choice there. Reason being that pretty much all the other songs that were "regulars" on that tour were also played on some other tour, so at least a reasonably good quality version existed somewhere. So great choice by them to pick "Nightwatchman" from that tour, but too bad it's unlikely to be released as a full concert recording (i.e. all the songs, and all the commentary by TP in between them).

Well, I wouldn't complain too much, because we're probably getting the best live tracks from that superb recording! I'm sure they spent a lot of time going through all the live stuff available in order to pick up the finest tracks and that's the best thing to do, in my opinion.
I wasn't too excited about the live anthology at first, but after hearing one of my all-time favorite tracks as an opener, I'm already starting to reconsider! Nightwatchman and A Woman In Love are superb tracks and having a superb quality live interpretation is a dream come true for me. A high-quality DVD release featuring live performances of such rare tracks would blow me away, but for now I won't complain, I hope they're taking it one step at the time and that more shows WILL be released on DVD/BLU-RAY!

Oh my god. This is amazing.
Sadly, I don't know if I will be able to get the whole Superhighway Tour, but this is...wow. It sounds so good.

I meant to comment on this earlier but never got around to it. "Nightwatchman" is a great choice but as a collector...I think there is one better choice from this tour and that is "Letting You Go" which has never appeared anywhere including bootlegs.

This confuses me a bit. You don't mean that there's a video of "Nightwatchman" do you? Or was there a still photo of the band with Phil, included in the Superhighway dowload?

Phil was a great fit with the band, TPATH were essentially a six-piece for at least a couple of albums and a couple of tours in the early 80's (Hard Promises album and tour, LAD album and tour, and... DTT tour, or part of it?). Like the other TPATH members at that time, Phil had a great "feel" for the music was able to add to it without overplaying. I think Stan must have brough Phil into the band? Phil also did most of the drums/percussion on TP's first solo album, Full Moon Fever. And of course, this forum wouldn't be called "Heartbreakers Beach Party" if Phil hadn't grabbed a bongo, thereby inspiring Tom to write a song to go with that sound.

If you save the mp3 on your PC and upload it into iTunes the new cover art comes up with it.

Letting You Go is a good one. They made a video for it, so you'd figure it was worthy of a live performance somewhere along the line.

MM, I am unaware of photos of Phil from this time frame but I would love to see some if they are out there.

My post about Phil's smile was based on seeing Phil perform live with other artists in and around L.A. several times and he seems to always wear a huge 'I am having the time of my life' grin on his face while performing.

I love seeing artists having so much fun while performing.

"Letting You Go" would be a good choice as well (and who knows, since we haven't seen the whole tracklist yet it might well be on there). But if I had to choose only one between the two for a live version, I'd go with "Nightwatchman".
