Does anyone suspect an actual tour to come out of this???? that would be great.
I am RUNNING to buy the new Rolling Stone after work to see what this new development in Pettyland is all about! Even walls fall down |

From what I understand the band won't be touring until they have a new album out on the market. This live box set has always been intended as a "stopgap release".

That makes sense but still hoping for a tour soon.... Cathee "Oh my, my, oh **** yes, you got to put on that party dress." "Live music...offers evidence of music's forgotten powers to heal and unite." ~ Phil Lesh |

This is a beauty idea though! There's been nothing like this before - from what I know. Obviously its not as good as seeing the Heartbreakers live, but Petty and the boys know that, their just rearin' up for a huge 2010 North American and possibly European Tour. I seen them 7 times now, and before I die I must see them 10 times atleast, so don't let me down TPHB!

Exactly! Now that the Heartbreakers are growing older their wise to take a year off from the grouling elements of playing on the road. Been that way now for a dozen years. Byrd doesn't a dozen years have a better ring to it that 10. Maybe you ought to think about seeing TPHB 12 times before you die. but still play like they were in their prime the Think I'll pack it in and buy a pick-up Take it down to L.A. Find a place to call my own and try to fix up. Start a brand new day. ~ Neil Young ~ |

John, I had to laugh when I read 'stopgap release'.
If the cream performances from 170 live shows is a 'stopgap', it really makes one wonder how great the next project after that will be!!!!!! A stopgap. LOL! Crazy in love with Rock and Roll. |

I'm ready and hope there is no 'stopgap'....

It's basically going to be Mellencamp's version of "Tracks"...four discs of unreleased recordings called "On The Rural Route 7609" You know a strange thing occurred to me...I wonder if "Playback" had been released in say 2001 instead of 1995 would've we have gotten a set more in line with "Tracks" instead of the Greatest Hits/Rarities format. I mean TP&HB gave us the best of both worlds with three discs that chronicled their catalog and three discs full of rarities and b-sides but it seems that in the years following the release of "Playback" it became sort of vogue not to issue the massive six disc set and instead market box sets directly at the collector/hardcore fan by shrinking the set to four discs and including only rare and previously unreleased material with The Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds Sessions" and Springsteen's "Tracks" would be good examples of this. I remember hearing around a decade ago that artists were being encouraged to do this essentially because the record companies did some research and found out they were actually losing money on these massive box sets. |

_____________________________________ http://www.myspace.com/donniewitt My album "Outsider" has a cover of a Tom Petty song on it. If you'd like to check it out for free, go to the link below... http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/donniewitt4 ---If it were not for Tom Petty's album "The Last DJ"...it's entirely possible I wouldn't be writing songs today. That album completely changed my life. After hearing it, I knew from that day forward I wanted to write songs. |
