I hope Tom Petty still intends to write his autobiography, as he mentioned in Conversations - a more in depth look into his life. Smile

I think that Runnin Down a Dream is pretty much just that. With as private of a person as Tom is known to be, I was amazed that he shared so much information about his childhood, parents, etc. It would be cool if he did write one though.

I thought Conversations was great and just about as indepth as I thought it could be. If Tom anted to write a book all on his own tho, I'm all for it!

He actually says at the beginning of the book that Conversations was not to be considered his autobiography; that, he intends to write his autobiography at some point in future. But, now with RDAD, that will probably be put on the back burner for a good long while.

P.S. I actually had the reverse opinion of the book. I didn't find it in depth, at all. He kind of skims over his childhood, and his adolescence, etc. It doesn't even say what his mom and dad died of (I don't think; I can't remember, anyway.). Certainly, not nearly as in depth as Geoffery Guiliano's book on George Harrison.

I loved reading about Howie in it, and what he had to say about his father and their relationship was heartbreaking. He went into more detail about the relationship with his parents in the movie tho. Tom strikes me as a private guy tho. I'm surprised and happy he has opened up as much as he has already. If he decides to share more, I will eagerly read on, but for now, I am happy.

Conversations was very candid. I too was amazed he shared so much with us in the book and then we got a movie too.

Tom's super busy obviously. Hopefully one day he will feel like sitting down and putting something down in his own words. Or maybe just a journal of life after Conversations was written and capture the now to be complied and shared at a later date. Wouldn't that be something.

Right now I'm just happy to listen to the music.

I also wonder why I'm so curious as to famous people's lives.

I would like to see more "in depth" as well. I was disappointed with "Conversation" - I already knew all that stuff.

You've been a fan forever Emmie so I bet you did.

I'm not sure what other fill-in to the book is necessary for the past. Maybe do you mean like what it was like raising his kids and were they always on the road. Stuff like that?

At the Troubadour I was thinking could this be recreated for a movie. The last night I mostly just looked at all the people and the club and absorbed the scene. Tom's thoughts at the time would be fun to read. We are moving right along. It's like here is 30 years and man we are hitting the floor running.

I bet his children have some amazing stories to tell as well. I'd be interested in reading their stories, if they chose to tell it.

Yeah, that would be interesting.

On the other hand, it might be rough on their daughters.

You might be disappointed. It could be all about how TP likes the crust cut off his grilled cheese sandwich or has to bath wtih a rubber duckie. Maybe the man wants to stay a myth for very simple reasons. Big Grin

^LOL!!!

Personally I'll wait for the autobiography. I'd rather have him spend his time writing/making his incredible music - that is kindof its own autobiography.

While singing to TPATH, "Quiet Mommy, I'm trying to listen to Thomas." Brett, age 5.
After listening to a Mudcrutch show I asked Brett what she thought about the new Mudcrutch music. Her response: "It's great. I didn't know it would be so thrilling." Brett, age 6.
"All right, now we're at the part of the show that we just go rip roarin crazy. Are you ready to go rip roarin crazy with me?" Tom Petty 6/28/03 Summerfest
Baby, those few hours linger on in my head forever...

Me too!

I nominate Geoffery Giuliano to write Tom Petty's biography. Most, if not ALL, his books have been very successful. He has a lot of experience writing biographies and he knows how to write 'colorfully'. His biographies read like a very interesting novel and not a dry, boring, fact-based book. He can make any humdrum, insignificant experience come to life just by the way he 'crafts' his words. Smile Smile

Maybe Bob Dylan could ghost write for Tom. He did a good job on his own autobiography. Smile
