Here is a (backhanded?) compliment from a Chicago Tribune reporter:

quote:
Mike Campbell (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers). The end solo on "American Girl" is as fast it gets for Campbell, who writes the music behind Petty's hits. His sleepy riffs on songs such as "Breakdown" and "I Won't Back Down" hang in the air like drunk fireflies.

The whole column is here:

What do you think?

What? It should be faster and out of sync? lol

I found this on the net:

The guitarist holding the world record for being the fastest guitarist in the world is Tiago Della Vega of Brazil, who broke the world record by playing Flight of the bumblebee at 320 bpm in an official record attempt in 2008.

I guess we could request the Flight of the Bumblebee and see. Razz

That article is missing a final paragraph or I don't see it. Did the editor cut it out?

Makes no sense whatsoever.

Am I in the minority to believe that the soft, slow, sweet sense of a guitar is just as powerful, if not more so, that wild, wicked, windy wacks?

Never knew it was a competition based on speed?

He can play any style, we all know that. He just chooses to play more delicate and humble solos which is nice to hear seeing as a lot of lead guitarist are full of themselves. It's something I think he got from Roger McGuinn and George Harrison just like Peter Buck of R.E.M. did.
