I came across an old clipping from when Howie died today. . . still makes me so sad. In re-reading it I realized that his daughter that was 15 in 2003 is now around 21 and wondered what ever became of her so I googled "Jamie Leffler, Los Angeles" and got this myspace

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.vi...e&friendid=230399031

They are a rockin punkish sort of band. I am so glad that she is still open to music and not bitter.
I wasn't sure where to post this, it felt weird to put it in unrelated. After all she can be considered a "project of a Heartbreaker".

*edited because I originally mis-identified Jamie's photo (she has blonde hair) and didn't want to continue the confusion., sorry. Smile

Wondering if we should be talking about a past member's family and leaving Internet trails.... Confused

Heaven forbid!!! Let's not do that. Let's just all ignore her my space too.

You're confused, alright! Give your head a shake.

I still haven't posted all that many times here, but this topic is exactly why I love this board. Where else could I have found a link to listen to the punk rock band of Howie Epstein's daughter?

Definitely put "Sabotage Success" on the list of songs I never would have heard. Not my style, but cool all the same. Thanks Themis!

I have to admit that I did think about that when I first came across it, but then I thought
1.) Her name is readily available on Howie's wikipedia page and in numerous other places CNN, Rolling Stone, etc.).
2.) If she wanted to remain anonymous her name wouldn't come up as the listing for the myspace, her bands would alone
3.) She is on myspace music (not the regular myspace) and it is not a private setting.
4.) The band sounds great, I was coming from a really positive place.

If I had to dig at all to find her I would have never have posted it. I'm sure she has been through enough and I would never want to expose her to anything else negative. Smile

No problem, I thought they were great too. Not to sound hokey, but Howie loved so many types of music that I'm sure he would be so proud. There not exactly my thing either, but I definitely enjoyed listening to them.

Thanks for the support slibilon.

Gargoyle, I really don't look at Howie as a "past member".

Wow! I love this! Thanks so much for posting that. I love their sound. They have that youthful rawness you enjoy from good rock bands when they're starting out. I wish they had the download feature setup. I'd buy. Smile

This is why I miss living in Southern California. Finding new music to check out. I'd love to go to see them live.

And she really looks like her dad, doesn't she? All the best to her. Great music. Smile

Wow, she sounds like a very talented young lady. I like their sound. She does look alot like her daddy. Her influences didn't include TPATH, huh?

I don't see this as invasion of privacy, she created her Myspace page for professional exposure, so I see no harm, no foul. Thanks for finding that little treasure for us.

I think its so cool that she found her own sound. Think about it, whatever you parents were into you can't like at 21! I'm sure that so much of the music is bittersweet to her. Its bittersweet to me, and I never even met the man. I think with with time it will be easier and she will find comfort in it. The best part is she is great and never, ever asked anyone to post this (although I'm pretty sure that we aren't the audience she is seeking). Once again that authenticity thing takes the stage, she is her fathers daughter in the best possible light. Howie was a Heartbreaker for 20 years, more good than bad, I think he would want us to quitely support his only child, if nothing else to be proud of her. . . I sure am.

What a profoundly beautiful thing to say, Themis. Smile

Wow. She's pretty cute!

hello CD listeners, we have come to the point on this album where those listening on cassette or records will have to stand up or sit down and turn over record or tape. In fairness to those listeners we will now take a few seconds before we begin side two... Thank you... Here's side two - tom petty, 1989

Thanks for posting that link! I'll check it out when I get home, so I can see MySpace from there.

When I first started this thread my intention was only to inform about Howie's daughter and her cool band. I probably sounded like some nostalgic old hippie lady to her 21 year old, punk rock self. Anyway, some people made some really great and complimentary posts to the thread. After someone posted something asking safe it was to be creating "internet trails" I explained my reasoning behind posting it (see above), but I must admit I felt sort of torn about it. What if they are right, etc. ? I decided to ask Jamie myself, so I messaged her a link to the thread, (if she didn't want to be mentioned I would have deleted everything). This was her response.

It did make me happy, happy that boundaries weren't overstepped and happy that she liked what was said.
